Frequently Asked Questions
What is GFRC?
Glass fiber reinforced concrete, This mix shares many of the same ingredients as normal concrete, but that’s about where the similarities end. A normal driveway mix has an average strength rating of around 3500-4000 psi, Our mix hits an excess of 11,000 psi. It is extremely durable and crack resistant, when properly cared for your piece will probably outlast you.
How durable is concrete?
GFRC is an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor surfaces. We use top of the line materials and sealers that offer excellent stain and scratch resistance. One of the best things about GFRC is its ability to be resealed at any time to provide a new looking surface.
Why GFRC?
Unlike natural stone, GFRC can be shaped in unlimited ways. Natural stone typically comes in a flat slab limited in length. GFRC can be made to any size or profile, Drop edges, seamless sinks, and seamless waterfalls are just a few examples. GFRC can also be tailored to match your space, with no two pieces ever being the same. From a modern home or office to a rustic cabin, GFRC can be made to fit any space
Can I put hot pans directly on my countertop?
No. Although GFRC is extremely heat resistant hot pots and pans can damage the sealer.
Can I cut on my countertops?
No. For one thing it will destroy a knife edge, it could also damage the sealer and make a weak spot for future stains
Do they crack?
We have had very few issues with our pieces cracking, with almost all cracks being hairline surface cracks in the face coat. These cracks are almost always on the top 1/8'“-1/4” of the surface and do not affect the structure of the concrete. While they can be patched they are usually left alone as they can’t even be felt by touch. (pieces never leave our shop with visible cracks and very rarely crack after cured)
How do I clean my countertops?
Soap and water and most natural cleaners are perfectly fine to use on concrete. Stay away from acidic cleaners such as vinegar and bleach or high concentrated cleaners.
How does the process work?
Most of our work is done off site and installed much like natural stone. Feel free to send us a quick sketch of your project and we will get you an estimate. After a quick templating process, we cast and process your pieces in our shop and deliver them to your site. Most installs only take a few hours. Removal of old countertops can be done by you or us.
